Nutcracker on the Indian River

A Ballet Vero Beach & Riverside Theatre Partnership

• 1 - Prepare a video:

  • Ages 6-7: Introduce yourself. State your name, age, and why you would like to be in Nutcracker on the Indian River. Then, please silently strike four poses based on the following emotions: Happy, Sad, Angry, and Excited.

  • Ages 8-10: Introduce yourself. State your name, age, and why you would like to be in Nutcracker on the Indian River. Then, at a quick pace, please march in place with pointed feet for 16 counts with your hands on your hips. 

  • Ages 11-18: Introduce yourself. State your name, age, and why you would like to be in Nutcracker on the Indian River. Then, please execute some basic ballet barre work (plies and tendus) to showcase your current level of ballet technique.

• 2 - Fill out the audition form below and submit it by September 28, 2025.

Expectations: Nutcracker on the Indian River is a professional production that includes children’s roles. Ballet Vero Beach is thrilled to offer the opportunity to partner with Riverside Theatre to provide this opportunity to participate in a spectacular performance with the region’s only professional ballet company. It is expected that all cast members conduct themselves in a respectful and disciplined manner. Participants and their families are expected to behave respectfully at all times to one another as well as production staff. Disrespectful or unfocused participants will be dismissed from the production. Dance is a difficult discipline. Participants must stay on top of their schoolwork, eat well-balanced meals, get enough sleep, and refrain from other activities that could result in physical injury. Most importantly, participants are expected to have fun and enjoy the entire experience. We are glad you are here!

Additionally, each potential performer is agreeing to accept whatever role he or she may be offered and participate in the production according to the policies within this document, as well as any additional necessary policies that may arise during the production period. Performers who drop out (due to non-emergency reasons) or are dismissed from the production may be ineligible to participate in future Ballet Vero Beach Productions.

Communication: All pertinent information regarding the production will be communicated to cast members through the contact email provided with this form. Please make sure to configure your SPAM settings to accept mail from nutcracker@balletverobeach.org. Please note that all communication from cast members should be directed to this email address. Riverside Theatre has graciously agreed to partner with Ballet Vero Beach on this production, but Riverside Theatre staff will not be able to answer any performer questions. 

Attendance Policy: All rehearsals and performances are required. Cast members may submit a request for one (1) excused absence during the rehearsal period. Absences may only be for required school activities or family trips, and cannot occur during required rehearsal or performance days. Above you will find a rehearsal schedule including all times cast members must be available. Please note: additional rehearsals/events may be added. All cast members will be informed of their first rehearsal date. From then on, rehearsal schedules will be emailed at least one week in advance. It is the responsibility of every cast member to know their rehearsal schedule. Cast members who are ill must inform Ballet Vero Beach of their illness immediately. If you cannot abide by this attendance policy, please do not participate. Unexcused absences or failure to abide by the attendance policy will result in dismissal from the production.
